Poster Exhibition at the Museum of Independence

A traveling poster exhibition that connected generations – and still has something to say

Posters that once hung in gateways, clubs, and student dormitories are now making their way to the Museum of Independence. But nothing about them has grown old – they still speak boldly, directly, and with character. This exhibition is a journey through rebellion, wit, and emotion captured on paper. Not just for those who remember – but also for those who want to feel it for the first time

About Event

A poster is more than just paper and ink.

It’s a voice — often a shout, sometimes a whisper. It’s a commentary on reality. It’s anger, hope, humor, a fight for space, for identity, for one’s place in the world.

And especially back then — in student clubs, on dorm room doors, in university hallways — it was everything. It was freedom.

Organizer

That’s why this exhibition doesn’t stand still. It moves. It lives. It knocks on new doors.

And now – it reaches the Museum of Independence in Warsaw.

Sounds like a serious place? Because it is.

But there’s nothing more natural than this: right here, where freedom and memory are celebrated, student poster art belongs – the boldest, most defiant, honest, and direct voice of a generation.

What will you see?

In an enlarged and powerful format, we present:

  • original posters from 1959–1989,
  • iconic graphics from Warsaw’s Stodoła and Remont clubs,
  • and the remarkable works of Andrzej Pągowski – a designer whose style everyone knows, but whose roots are deeply tied to the student movement.

Each poster comes with a label and QR code, linking to its background, context, and story. Just scan and dive into a narrative that hasn’t aged a bit.

🎙 Opening – July 2 at 6:00 PM

We especially invite you to join us then – for the exhibition opening with curator Maja Maciejko and the poster creators, who will be there in person.

You’ll have the chance to talk, ask questions, reminisce, or simply listen to how ink and paper became a generation’s manifesto.

🙌 A great place – small stories that make a difference

To some, it’s just a poster.

To us? Each one is a memory. Alive. Unfiltered.

That’s why we won’t stop. The exhibition will keep on traveling.

And yes – if you have a poster you once created or that’s been sitting in a drawer, reach out to us. You might think it’s worthless – but to us, it’s a gem. We want to collect them, showcase them, and give voice to those who were never asked.

🧡 Who is this exhibition for?

For those who remember, and for those who are just starting to understand.

For former activists, students from the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s – and for students from TikTok.

For artists, for archivists, for the young, for those who say “it used to be better” – and for those who want to say “it will be alright.”

Come by. Have a look. Take a moment.

Let paper speak again.
