STU Theatre “Exodus” – Side A
Year unknown
Eugeniusz Get-Stankiewicz

The cross-shaped poster by Eugeniusz Get-Stankiewicz for Teatr STU’s production Exodus (side A) is printed on a single long strip of paper in an intense green that, when unfolded, forms a crucifix. Covering its surface is a monochrome photograph of a naked man spread in a crucifixion pose, shown front-on with stark realism. Running along the arms and vertical shaft of the cross, the white inscription “EXODUS Teatr STU” repeats, giving the composition a rhythmic structure and underscoring its theatrical context. The raw, uncompromising nudity of the figure set against the shape of the cross provokes associations with sacrifice, liberation, and the corporeal dimension of the sacred. The minimal palette and austere design heighten the emotional charge, confronting the viewer with a direct—almost brutal—question about the limits of art and religious symbols. The work is a radical graphic gesture typical of Get-Stankiewicz, who fused conceptual thinking with a tangible, bodily expressiveness.
